How do I find books on a subject?

Answer

If you are interested in a particular subject, you can:

  • Search SmartCat
  • Browse 'Medical Books by Subject'  (with books and e-books available via the Central Medical Library)

  • Browse the physical book stacks to find a suitable book. The books are arranged by subject.

Search SmartCat

  • Type some search terms that match your topic in the SmartCat search box
  • or go to Advanced Search and select Subject to search the topic index

Just try whatever gives the best result.

A few hints:

  • Use " " to indicate a compound term
    eg "environmental health"

  • Use an * to truncate a search term
eg gynaecolog* (searches for gynaecology and gynaecologic)

  • Use OR for synonyms or for spelling difference (think: American and British English)
    eg gynaecolog* OR gynecolog*

  • Use Refine this search (on the left) to select a period, language, material type etc.
