Then Word probably disabled the Add-In after an unusual action.

You can switch it on again via:

•     File
•     Options
•     Add-Ins
•     Is Write-n-Cite under the heading 'Disabled'?

Then go to:    

•     Manage    
•     select 'Disabled Items' and click Go    
•     select Write-N-Cite and click Enable
